The history of ricochet is relatively short. This young racquet sport originated in Canada at the end of the 1980s as a combination of squash and racquetball and is rapidly gaining popularity especially in Europe, apart from the Czech Republic mainly in Holland, Germany and Hungary. Just as ricochet differs from squash in the rules and dimensions of the court, so does the necessary equipment for the player. Compared to a squash racket, ricochet rackets are slightly smaller, the Merco Eclipse model is 535 mm long (standard squash racket length is 685 mm) and weighs 160 g (with string). The weight range of ricochet rockets is most often between 100-200 grams. The balance point of the Eclipse racket is 245 mm, so it fits better in the hand and enables faster and easier manoeuvrability. The Merco Eclipse racquet is designed primarily for beginners and intermediate players for a universal playing style. There are only a few types of rackets on the market for different player performance. The Czech Ricochet Association (ČRA) also recommends rackets from the Czech manufacturer Merco for the game.
