Description
ALAVIS™ SAMMY is a veterinary preparation for dogs and cats containing a combination of substances L-choline, L-methionine and Silybin - milk thistle extract. All these substances are known for their positive effect on the liver and its regeneration. The liver is the main and most important organ for metabolism and detoxification of the body. Metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids, ammonia detoxification, degradation of cholesterol, heme takes place in the liver, hormones are formed, degraded and inactivated in the liver, plasma proteins are formed there, and an equally important function is the storage of energy (lipids and glycogen), iron and vitamins. ALAVIS™ SAMMY can also be used for disorders of so-called cognitive functions in dogs and cats.
Between < strong>cognitive functions (recognition functions) include processes such as learning, memory or decision making. The centers for these processes are stored in different parts of the brain.
Disorders of cognitive functions in dogs and cats are most often manifested
- < span>impaired recognition – not recognizing family members,
- disorientation – getting lost in a familiar environment; aimless walking; bumping into obstacles,
- deterioration of hygiene habits - urinating at home,
- changes in the sleep cycle – night waking, often associated with restlessness, vocalization and disorientation.
These changes can result in the so-called. geriatric dementia. We consider dementia to be a condition where impairment of cognitive (recognition) functions is more severe than corresponds to age and health status.

Active substances in 1 capsule: L-choline 124 mg, L-methionine 100 mg, Silybin ( milk thistle extract) 24 mg.
L-methionine is used for synthesis SAM (S-adenosyl methionine), which is involved in the formation of glutathione, which is a very important antioxidant. This means that it prevents damage to important cellular components by reactive oxygen radicals, especially in liver cells, and is therefore of great importance in their protection. Glutathione is also of great importance for metabolic and biochemical reactions, e.g. synthesis of DNA, proteins, prostaglandin, amino acids, enzyme activation. It also has an effect on the immune, nervous, gastrointestinal system and further affects the lungs. It is decisive in the metabolism and function of iron, participates in the synthesis of leukotrienes and is a cofactor for the enzyme glutathione peroxidase.
Silybin from milk thistle Mariánského has been known and used for many years for its hepatoprotective effect, i.e. it protects liver cells (hepatocytes). It prevents the breakdown of hepatocytes and helps the regeneration of the damaged cell membrane.
Choline has a lipotropic effect, participates in the utilization of fats and cholesterol. In the form of phosphatidylcholine, it prevents the accumulation of cholesterol and fat in the body and participates in the protection of the liver, possibly supporting liver treatment. Together with methionine, it ensures the transport of fats into the cells. Choline produces acetylcholine, which is the main transmitter of nerve impulses to the brain
The simultaneous use of these substances has a significant positive effect on liver regeneration.
Recently, finds the importance of the substance SAM also in cognitive disorders (dementia) in geriatric dogs and cats. As the age of these animals increases, we encounter the development of dementia in them, and with the help of the substance SAM it is possible to mitigate these changes.

Method of use: Capsules are administered daily according recommended dosage into the animal's mouth or with a small piece of food. The capsule can be split open and the contents mixed with water or a small piece of food. Administer the preparation at least 60 minutes before meals.
Duration administration: In case of acute inflammation of the liver or pancreatitis, administer ALAVIS ™ SAMMY daily for 1-3 months, in case of chronic liver problems, administer the product daily for 2-3 months, and in high-risk patients or patients with significant liver damage, administer the product 2 times a week long-term after a 1-3 month daily course.
